Terry McClain

Assistant Mountain Guide

Terry McClain has been hooked on climbing ever since his first successful summit of Mt. Rainier in 1986. After many years of climbing throughout the Cascades and experimenting with various routes on Mt. Rainier, Terry enjoyed his first expedition when he summitted Mt. McKinley in 1995. Terry has continued to improve his experience, strength, and style as a climber while scaling mixed routes throughout the cascades as well as around the world. He has led teams to many successful summits, including Aconcagua (Polish Traverse) and Kilimanjaro (Western Breach).

In the summer of 2000, Terry began his guiding career as an assistant on our Advanced Peru Expedition and added a lot of strength to the team and was able ascend 5 successful summits including the difficult ascents of Huascaran and Toqllaraju. Terry will continue to assist our trips, including our expeditions to Mt. Elbrus, Peru, Carstensz Pyramid, and others.

A note from one of our Peru climbers:

Terry--Our Peru trip was pretty special! Thanks again for all your planning and support. I really appreciated all of your efforts!

Tim U., Colorado

Withstanding all of his international expeditions, Terry's favorite mountain continues to be Mt. Rainer. With over 20+ summits on 8 different routes, Terry now concentrates on one-day speed ascents of the mountain in order to push his limits and maintain the utmost in physical conditioning.

Terry’s main attraction to climbing and guiding is being able to feel a great joy in being a small part of a mountain that is so big, powerful and beautiful, and help his clientele experience this same thing.

Whenever he is not in the mountains, Terry resides in Puyallup, WA with his family. His other interests include rock climbing, hiking and archery.
